1. Motivation and objective of the Special Issue:
We are witnessing a new evolving era in the global energy environment. This non-stable situation poses serious questions, challenges and opportunities for countries, industries, professionals and academics. This Special Issue will focus on how energy sectors should constantly adapt to continuously changing geopolitical, economic, technological and social conditions. The issue will present new research results in the areas of decision-making mechanisms in the energy markets and energy pricing, smart networks design and management, environmental and energy efficiency analysis.
The Special Issue seeks to publish novel research and reflect the most recent advances on the latest contributions on the above areas, covering new modeling techniques and formulations, as well as innovative case studies. Contributions will be selected through a refereeing process consistent with the standard reviewing process of the Energy Journal. Only original contributions of the highest quality will be included. This Special Issue should be of benefit to policy-makers and researchers worldwide, wherever there is a need to overcome challenges, design policy options, strive for new technological breakthroughs and seek investment opportunities towards a new era of energy transition.

3. Names and details of the Guest-Editors
A. Kostas Andriosopoulos
Dr. Kostas Andriosopoulos (Kostas) is the Executive Director of the Research Centre for Energy Management at ESCP Europe Business School where he holds the position of Professor in Finance and Energy Economics. He is also the Academic Director of the full-time (MEM) and the Executive (EMEM) Masters in Energy Management. In addition to his academic profile he has an extensive professional experience in the business world. Kostas has been the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greek Natural Gas Corporation (DEPA). Kostas in the president of the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics (HAEE), the Greek affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).
Kostas' current interests include energy-related geopolitical issues, price modelling, financial engineering and the application of operational research tools on risk management and investment techniques in energy commodity markets. His work has been published in international finance- and commodity-related Journals, and has been presented in recognised conferences world-wide. He is the Associate Editor for the International Journal of Financial Engineering and Risk Management, he has edited Special Issues in recognised journals, acts as a reviewer for a number of academic journals, and has organised numerous international conferences.
B. Spiros Papaefthimiou
Dr. Spiros Papaefthimiou (Spiros) is Associate Professor in Energy Management and Energy Efficiency Technologies, in the School of Production Engineering and Management at Technical University of Crete in Greece. He studied Physics at the University of Patras, Greece and holds an MSc in Environmental Sciences and a doctorate specializing in smart energy saving devices for buildings.
Spiros is specialized in energy efficiency issues and energy saving applications. As part of his academic work he has published more than 50 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He has presented papers to numerous international energy conferences and acted as referee for international journals in the area of Renewables and Energy efficiency applications. He is member in various professional and academic associations. Spiros has edited Special Issues in journals related to the Energy field and has co-organised several international and national conferences. He is the vice-president of the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics (HAEE), the Greek affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).
