Special Issue on “Energy sustainability in global cities”
The primary energy demand from cities is more than 67% of the global demand. Due to the rapid global urbanization, the energy-related CO2 emissions from cities are increasing at 1.8% per year. By 2030, more than 76% of the global emissions will come from cities. Considering that macro policies are usually implemented at the city level as a basic administrative unit - city, research into cities' energy consumption and GHG emissions are of great value for driving global climate change mitigation policy. This special issue focuses on cross-discipline research on energy/GHG accounting and low-carbon development pathways of cities. The guest editors welcome theoretical papers, methodological studies and empirical research (or combination thereof).
Topics of interest of this Special Issue include, but are not limited to the following aspects:
Energy consumption and GHG emissions of cities
Inventory accounting method discussion and verification
Production-based and consumption-based energy/GHG emission inventories
Energy consumption/GHG emissions from industry enterprises, transportation, and residents
Multi-city research on energy and related GHG emissions
Energy/GHG emission inventories of city agglomerations
Energy consumption and GHG emissions embodied in trade among cities
Multi-city cooperation and restriction on Energy consumption and GHG emissions
Assessment and indicators for cities
Mitigation roadmaps for cities
Energy consumption control and GHG emission reduction policy
Low-carbon development pathways of cities
Technology improvement of city energy utilization and optimization
Eco-city cases design and implement
